Opinion on Malcolm X

The reading on Malcolm x for me was a definite eye opener. Although I was obviously aware of the percent of people not being graced with education, I was unaware of how much will power you need in order to succeed. This short paper was extremely inspirational, and really made me think up some questions to ask myself. Do you have enough will to get what you want? Even under harsh conditions will you ever give up your true dream? Or will you fall under the pressure and no longer strive for success? This story really showed me that things may not always be in your favor, but if you have coexisting pressure, you still need to acknowledge your goals or dreams and keep trying to reach the point of completion.
This could really be useful in writing my paper because it makes me think of times that I have really done what I needed to do in order to reach my goals. Like this story, you have to complete the baby steps in order to build up to your final goal. For instance, when he started at “aardvark” and completed the first page, that was a small step of his goal, which was to complete the whole dictionary. For my case, whether it was pass a class, or a final, study for tests, or just complete my homework or labs, these are some baby steps that I need to complete in order to finish my bigger goal.
This relates to the “Proficiency” paper because it displays passion in both stories. It was clear that in both scenarios the subject had a love of education, learning, and reading and writing. Although the outcomes are different in each story, when it comes down to it, you have to have a certain amount of passion, mixed with a will to meet your own expectations. People that complete their goals never give up, and will do anything for what they want.
